Mattresses

Polyether mattresses: This is a good basic mattress for children and adults. It is the cheapest type of polyurethane foam. The polyether foam can be made with much or little air per cubic meter. This is indicated by the specific gravity (SG). A mattress with indicator SG20 has foam that weighs 20 kg per cubic meter, and is a mattress that gives little support and relatively quickly loses it's hardness. A mattress of SG40 is more durable, more resilient and more comfortable. Independently of the specific gravity (SG) polyether mattresses can be manufactured in rigid and flexible polyurethane foam variants.SG25: 50 kg max. SG30: between 50-70 kg. SG40: weighing between 70-90 kg. High resilience foam: High resilience foam has an open cell structure. Because of this, the ventilation of air and moisture is better in comparison with a polyether mattress. High resilience foam is equal to latex foam exept for the fact that it has better air and moisture ventilation. High resilience foam mattresses are orthopaedic responsible mattresses. Due to the high resilience the mattress will maintain it's original shape much longer than a polyether mattress. The Dutch term 'koudschuim', translated as 'coldfoam', is derived from the term 'cold cure moulding', implying that the foam is poored into non-heated molds. High resilience foam also has flame retardant properties. Memory foam: What is memory foam? It is a special kind of visco-elastic foam, and also called Nasa-foam. The origin of this material is in the aerospace industry. In the 1970s there was much research done by Nasa into space suits that have optimal pressure-distributing properties. During this study they found that memory foam is the optimal pressure distributor. Memory foam is often applied in hospitals and wheelchairs. Memory foam works as follows: When you lay down on the mattress your body weight and body heat then make the foam take over your body's shape. The moment you get off the mattress the foam will start to slowly move into it's original flat shape.Memory foam is highly influenced by the ambient temperature, especially in the winter, it is a good idea after purchasing a memory foam mattress, to let it acclimatize. In a cold sleeping environment, at fist the mattress wil give a hard lying experience, but after the mattress has taken over your body temperature it will gradually become softer. Because of the body temperature, the material itself forms after the body contours, making sure the weight of the sleeper is well distributed over the contact surface and there are virtually no pressure points. This is the great advantage of memory foam: it contributes to good blood flow and therefore it is used in hospital mattresses to prevent pressure ulcers. Turning on a memory foam mattress can be experienced as difficult becouse there is no couterpressure. Memory foam gives a high amount of thermal insulation and ventilates moderately at high densities. Mattresses should regularly be turned arbound, preferably every two weeks. A good mattress protector between bed base and mattress protects your mattress and isolates and takes in the moisture. Haveing a detachable mattresscover does not mean that this cover can be washed at 90 degrees unless specifically stated in the product description. At a too high temperature the cover may shrink and become damaged. When the product discription doesn't mention the maximal washing temperature it is best to handwash at 30 degrees celcius. Keep in mind that in the case your mattresscover has a zipper, it has to be protected during the washing You should always use a mattress cover on the mattress to protect the mattress fabrics against urine, moisture and other issues causing the mattress fabrics and mattress to become dirty. For example, urine, but other fluids aswell can also go through the mattress ticking, making it close to impossible to get your mattress intirely clean again. You should therefore always use a mattress cover for all mattresses. In case a mattressprotector wasn't used then we are not liable for consequential damages as described above.
